Once you’ve made your models, follow the steps to make a complementary cake or mix-and-match them to create your own custom designs. The breakdown of essential recipes, tools and techniques at the beginning of the book contains everything you need to get started. There’s an explanation of the different types of sugarpaste, a handy colour chart and a guide to the basic shapes you’ll be using to build your characters. Once you’ve got the basic techniques down, Vicky encourages you to use your newfound skills to create your own custom figurines because whatever the occasion, there’s nothing more personal than a handmade sugar model.
