To celebrate Afternoon Tea Week from 8th–14th August 2016, afternoontea.co.uk held the Afternoon Tea Awards 2016 in an endeavour to find the best places in London to enjoy a sumptuous teatime spread.
The awards were decided by a team of independent judges who looked at all aspects of the afternoon tea experience, from arrival to departure, with a strong focus on the food, drink and service.
The award for the Best Traditional Afternoon Tea went to Claridge’s in Mayfair, who were praised for offering ‘an exceptional experience’ and pastries which were ‘perfect in flavour, texture, and presentation’.
The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park were awarded the Best Contemporary Afternoon Tea for their ‘attentive and thoughtful’ staff, as well as their ‘innovative sandwich presentation’ and ‘delicate and intricate pastries’.
Best Themed Afternoon Tea went to Sanderson London for their Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea which ‘surprised and enchanted’ the judges and was ‘inventive, fun [and] tasty’.
Grosvenor House was named Best Family-Friendly Afternoon Tea for their ‘cleverly designed’ and ‘well-orchestrated’ children’s selection.
