Gender Reveal Cake

by Karen Taylor

This adorable cake is a fun and quirky way to reveal your baby's sex to family and friends.

To view this project's edibles, equipment and instructions, you will need to sign in or join Cakes & Sugarcraft Magazine - it's FREE and only takes a minute.

A popular trend in the US, mums-to-be are now hosting gender reveal parties where they announce the sex of their baby to friends and family. And the way they make the big announcement? Through the cake, of course! The cake is neutral on the outside but is cut open to reveal coloured sponge or buttercream: is it going to be pink for a girl or blue for a boy?

  1. Covering the Cakes
Layer and fill the cake with pink or blue buttercream, then cover the cake and drum with ivory sugarpaste.
  2. Elephant
Find out how to model the elephant topper from Sugar Modelling Paste.
  3. Pawprints
Create a pawprint border around the base of the cake using Sugar Florist Paste.
  4. Finishing Touches
Secure the elephant to the top of the cake and finish with a ribbon.
